Otočec Castle on the Michelin map
Restaurant Grad Otočec in Michelin Guide
Michelin’s search for the most recognisable culinary destinations in the world to award led their anonymous and stringent inspectors to Slovenia a few years ago. Already in the first year of the evaluation, several Slovenian restaurants were recognised as worth a visit – including Otočec Castle, and could proudly boast special awards and a presentation in the famous red guide.
2023 Michelin Guide
The fresh ingredients and local specialities, carefully prepared by the island's chefs, and the restaurant's attractive décor are impressive.
Because of its commitment to natural, local, fresh and tasty food, the 2023 Michelin Guiderecommends a visit to the Otočec Castle restaurant.
The culinary offer at Otočec Castle is adapted to the local environment and the special features of the seasons and not vice versa.
Specialities of the local environment and the seasons
Many of the ingredients are produced by us in our own Organic Garden, while the rest is supplied by nearby farms certified for organic and integrated production and animal rearing.
Nature is the best source of inspiration for our culinary creations. There are more than enough ideas for dishes that combine modern culinary trends with the ethnological specialities and traditions of the Dolenjska region.
What does it mean to be awarded a Michelin star?
Michelin’s awards, particularly its stars, are top culinary awards that bring with them a reputation, recognition and a great culinary responsibility – to preserve, nurture and develop the offer, quality and atmosphere.
At Otočec, we will do everything to fulfil and surpass all these expectations.
An ambience that enchants
The Otočec Castle restaurant is characterised by a distinctive ambience in stone, solid wood and wrought iron, which exudes a special atmosphere in each of the rooms – both in the main restaurant, the Hunting Room with its fireplace and café, and on the terrace within the castle walls.
The Organic Garden grows richer and more beautiful every year
Back in 2020, the discerning Michelin judges were impressed by the focus on local specialities and ingredients and the seasonal offer of vegetables, berries and herbs from the castle's own garden. The diverse and attractively landscaped garden is located in the immediate vicinity of the castle. The approximately 2,500 square metres of fenced area is divided into a vegetable section, a herb section, high beds and a fruit section with trees.
Focus on local specificities
The restaurant at Otočec Castle is stocked with the highest quality vegetables and herbs for most of the year, and the produce is full of flavour and energy thanks to being harvested at an edible ripeness.
Last season was particularly generous with courgettes, peppers, cucumbers, aubergines, tomatoes, lettuce, herbs and aromatics, as well as potatoes.
