The town of Dolenjske Toplice has been marked by thermal springs since the prehistoric times – archaeological excavation works nearby clearly evidence their healing properties. The first written reference to the town dates back to 1215 when Henry IV, the Margrave of Istria, granted part of his property to the Cistercian monastery in Stična. The first health resort building – the present-day Vital Hotel – was built in 1767 which marked the beginning of the health resort’s existence.
