Skin smoothing and firming with the Pellevé method

Procedure

Using a warm probe, we heat the deeper layers beneath the skin, from a depth of a few millimetres to several centimetres, in order to naturally stimulate fibroblasts (connective tissue cells) and thus the production of collagen — the most important protein in the skin’s connective tissue. The heat generated by radiofrequency energy causes collagen fibres to contract and stimulates the production of new collagen, making the skin smoother and firmer while reducing the size of the sebaceous glands.

Benefits of the Pellevé method

The procedure is non-invasive, which means that no incisions are made in the skin and the tissue remains intact. Compared with other procedures, the level of safety is exceptionally high — there is no bleeding or abrasion, and there is virtually no risk of scarring. After the procedure, the skin may remain slightly red for a few hours, but there are no other unpleasant after-effects.

Visible effects after the first treatment

Loose skin becomes visibly firmer after the very first treatment, while the full effects, based on the stimulated production of collagen in the skin, become apparent one or two months later. For younger skin, a single treatment may be enough to achieve a firmer and more radiant appearance, while older skin with less collagen usually requires repeated treatments, with intervals of 1 to 3 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pellevé a safe method?
When performed professionally, wrinkle smoothing with the Pellevé method is completely safe. Before the first treatment, you will discuss the scope of the procedure and any possible contraindications with a doctor specialising in aesthetic surgery, while the treatment itself will be carried out by a suitably trained nurse.

Does the treatment need to be repeated?
This depends on age and the condition of the skin. In older people and in skin that has already lost a considerable amount of tone, the treatment should be repeated after 1 to 3 weeks; two repeat treatments are often recommended. Between treatments, new collagen and elastin are deposited, helping the skin become firmer. The cycle is recommended once a year, while for younger people a single treatment may be sufficient.

Does Pellevé hurt?
No. In fact, the treatment is generally pleasant. The skin is smoothed using a warm probe, which may occasionally feel somewhat hot, but never to the point of causing pain.

Is Pellevé performed only on the face?
No. The procedure is most effective on the face, but it can also be used on the neck, décolletage and hands.

Can I also have Botox or hyaluronic acid filler injections at the same time?
It is better to have both types of injections after completing the Pellevé treatment cycle. Because the skin will be firmer after these treatments, the amount of filler required may be considerably lower. In addition, heat treatment of the skin may also cause Botox to break down. For this reason, after Botox injections, it is advisable to wait several weeks before undergoing Pellevé treatment.

Is there an age limit for this method?
Once the skin loses its ability to produce new fibres and therefore regenerate itself, the method is no longer effective. However, it is difficult to define a specific age limit, as skin quality depends on many factors, not just age.

Can Pellevé also smooth wrinkles under the eyes?
Yes. Pellevé is one of the very few effective non-invasive methods for smoothing the extremely sensitive area under the eyes, including the lower eyelid.
